Well, that shouldn't be a surprise because people who are bothered
by a rewind poking into their right eye socket while they look
through a viewfinder and who want a compact body aren't likely
candidates for being Nikon users.

Believe me, I'd be happier with a Nikon outfit-- but that would mean
a pair of F3's, probably F3HP's. Fine camera that would be a joy
to use, an F3HP is a bit heavier than I'd want to be carrying around
in pairs.

Also, the problem is worse on the FG/EM style of body than it is
on the FE2/FM2/FA style. So, I could use Nikon compacts if I
had an FE2 and FM2 or a pair of FE2's, but I'm not willing to
use a camera that costs as much as an FE2 if it isn't fully
supported with replacement parts for repairs, and the FE2 has
been out of production long enough that it isn't 100upported anymore.
The FM2 would be fine, but no TTL flash AE. The FG is cheap enough
that I wouldn't fret if a circuit board went bad and I had to
toss the camera, but then I'd have the wind lever annoyance again.

I dare say that you haven't tried using a camera with such a lever
problem in real situations with your left eye. After an extended period
of use it gets to be such an annoyance that you start to want to throw
the camera into a stone wall. It makes the camera slower to use also as
you are worrying on the position of the lever.

I also don't like the Nikon compact style of pressing the shutter release
down part way to activate the meter. Twice I've acquired an FE2 and
50mm lens thinking I would switch to Nikon, but both times I ended up
selling the FE2 after running a few rolls of film through, not finding
it to suit my own subjective, if eccentric, style of holding and using
a camera.

On OM bodies, I am not a big fan of the shutter speed ring being
around the lens mount. This makes it a pain to set shutter speeds
in weather cold enough for gloves/mittens. But now that I know how
to disable the shutter speed lock that requires the wind lever to
be stuck out in a menacing position, I might get an OM-2000 for
cold weather applications (that would also benefit from its mechanical
shutter). But I'll wait until I can find a used one so I won't worry
about voiding a warranty by modifying the wind lever.
