Telescopic Auto Tube 65~116, and the usual cost of one on the used
market? I am in need of macro capability, and wonder if the 50mm f3.5
macro is adequate. The Tube would allow me to use the 80 and 135 mm
macros as well. This is all new to me, and any help is apreciated.
 Thanks.Cheers

Hi Ryan,
You have received a great deal of info on the Auto Tube so I will just add a
little.
First off, I do not refer to magnification in 1:2 or 2:1 (I always seem to get
confused) So, I use 1X Mag = Life size which ='s film coverage of 1X1 1/2
inches approx.
Don't think you must buy Macro lenses to do close up's or macro. You can use
a standard lens with the Auto tube with very good results. The following is a
chart for reference to use with the 65-116 Auto Tube.
Lens / Mag. range / (Working Distance).
135mm Macro - Infinity - .43X mag (infinity - 17")
80mm Macro / .48 - 1.2X Mag. (8 - 5")
80mm Macro W/ C U Lens / 1X - 2X (3.5" -2.5")
38mm Macro / 3.1X - 4.5X (1.8" - 1.3")
20mm Macro / 6.8X - 9.5X (.8" - .7")
Now, the beauty of the 65-116 Tube is you do not have to use Macro lenses.
Standard lenses work very well.
200mm f 4 / .33X - .67X (28" - 21") Great working distance @ 1/2 X Mag.
135 f2.8 / .5 - 1X / (15" - 12")
100 f2.8 / .67 - 1.3X / ( 9" - 7")
85 f2 / .77X - 1.5X / (6" - 5")
50mm f 1.8,1.4,1.2 / 1.3X - 2.5X / (21/4 -11/2")
For what it is worth, I consider the 65-116 Auto Tube a great accessory.
Good Luck.
