this story is not very funny and have poor OM content except the sound which
is the same than the French word for Man (Homme).
During my trip trough the Photokina, I've seen an exhibition called "The
Image of Man" it's the best in Photography from 50 years of Stern Magazine
(a German news magazine).
There are a lot of pictures of Man (in the generic sense) some of joy, some
of pain, some of birth, some of death... Probably some of those pictures
were taken by our favorite cameras some are well Known like those of
Sebastiao Salgado or those of "the Noubas" (an African tribe) taken by Leni
Riefensthal...an other less. A nice exhibition which need probably more time
to be seen than the time I spent there but.., you know, when you have
already spend your day walking all around...
After the closure of the Photokina I was on my way to the station, at the
top of the stairs to the Rhine Bridge...at this place there is a nice view
of the Dom (Köln Cathedral). There was a Japanese (sorry for our Easterner
friends I had not the time to verify) taking a picture of this view and in
the corner a Homeless, perhaps in the picture (not sure). When the
"Japanese" have made his picture the Homeless made some sort of sign (not
aggressive) an the photographer made a little salutation and went on his
way, I'm not sure he have seen what have followed...At this moment the
Homeless looked strangely at his bottle, have he joined the hands..? he
grasp this bottle, climb on the small wall and as suddenly falled...all I've
heard was the broken glass and a mat sound...I ran to the wall to see him
lying, dead, 5 meter down...end of a life. I've think to the discussion we
had with Gary Schloss in L.A. about he Homeless of San Francisco...this One
was like them nobody but a Man his picture will never be on the wall of an
exhibition, perhaps in the corner of the image of a tourist...
I don't know if anybody else have seen this last "regard" (I use the French
word) to the bottle, this last "complicity", this picture will never exist,
only in my memory...
I sometimes think that the pictures we don't take are as important that the
ones we take.
Excuse me for this sad story but I think you could understand what I mean
regards
marc
