Hi Joe,
how many bearers did you use? I carried a Mamiya 23 once, but when hiking
long and far -- say over one week in roadless country north of the Arctic
circle -- I do prefer the following:

one OM body ready, one in reserve,
50 mm 1.8 or 3.5 Macro, depending on the time of the year,
3.5/135 mm,
2.8/28 mm.

Period. No zooms. They are, for me, too unwieldy for carrying on the
march. If I work out of the pack, I have time to change prime lenses.
No motors, no flashes, no gadgets, nothing. And no tripod. If I need
support, I either use the rifle sling technique (I am an ex-sniper) or
my pack. I can shoot the moon at home.

I have sometimes used a medium format camera, either a Mamiya Six
or a fine old Zeiss Super Ikonta-X folder with coupled rangefinder and
non-coupled selenium meter. One of the B/W pictures taken with the
later hangs in front of me just now, enlarged to 30x40 cm (12x16 in.)
and critically sharp thanks to the lovely Tessar. But the needs of the
Net drew me back to 35 mm and the OM system. 35 mm is easier to
digitize.
