is, between the bracket & the bottom of the tightening screw?

Metal will not compress to give a snug fit. It will also probably scratch
the bottom of the camera.
The spacer is 2 inches wide for more surface contact. It is smooth on one
side and nubby on the other.
If you mean on the underside of the bracket plate, it is not so easy to get
the post out on the Stroboframe.
