Most detergents contain UV brighteners, which convert ultraviolet to
blue light. (Cheer was the first product to do this, I think.) If the
fabric you use to reflect or diffuse the flash (or even sunlight) is
contaminated with these brighteners, the color balance will shift to
blue.
