The theory is that Velvia is TOO saturated and contrasty for some
users' tastes.

Rating it at 40ISO has the effect of OVEREXPOSING by 1/3 of a stop.
This results in a less saturated slide which is lower in contrast.

If you want Velvia for its saturation and contrast, you should
probably shoot it at 50.   If this shoot isn't easily repeatable, then
shoot backup on a film you know.
