Last friday I saw an ad in a Dutch photo magazine (F+D) I'd just bought
for a 40/2.0 Zuiko, for only Hfl.495 (about 250 $US). You can image I
called as soon as possible, the next morning. First the young salesman
didn't know where I was talking about, and couldn't find the lens after
looking quickly ("it probably is already sold") but I insisted and told
him of the ad which was published just the day before, and this time he
looked better and found it. Yes this 'pancake' lens can easily be
overseen. But now it's mine!

It arrived last tuesday, and I already fell in love with it. It is the
smallest and lightest of all Zuikos - not counting the short macro
heads - and for these reasons Doris would surely love it too. Maybe she
can trade it with someone who wants the 35-105 :-)? No, I'm not in.
I really like the natural angle of view. I think it's much more
versatile as a standard lens than the 50 mm or 35 mm. It is the best of
both worlds. Oh, and it has an additional bonus: it focusses to 30 cm.,
giving a fairly high magnification ratio of 1:5. What a shame this
beautiful lens is discontinued, and that it is so rare. It is much too
practical and beautiful to be a collector's item. I know I'm gonna use
it a lot!

But maybe Olympus (are you listening, Mother? :-) can make it up to us.
After all they owe us one, forgetting to introduce the OM-5 AF. Maybe
Olympus can celebrate the 30th anniversary of the OM system in 2002 by
reintroducing the OM-1 (slightly patched to accept a 1.55 volt cell) in
a kit together with the 40/2.0, for a reasonable price (way below the
price of the 4Ti)? I bet just about all of us would buy... Proposed
name for the creative minds: The OM-2002 Anniversary Kit.
Then they can ditch the 2000 Cosina thing - that one suffers from a
severe millenium bug: it isn't either Olympus, OM System, or Zuiko :-(
A better name for this prodigal son would have been OM-Y2K :-)

Oh, and btw, I had another 'hit' in the same store: an OM slide copier
for only Hfl.95 (about 47 $US). Nice price, huh? Here in Holland they
can go up to three times as much.

I am Hans, I'm a Zuikoholic
