That´s the coldest month in the year. There will be (most probably) snow
and the period of daylight is short.

Forget the 300mm, take a 2x converter and 135mm with you and don´t forget
the 24mm.

Hmm, difficult I´m not from "Bankfurt", but I would visit the Taunus area
to the Lahn valley with the medivial city of Limburg (cathedral) maybe
following the river Lahn to Wetzlar (home of the Leica ;-), I imagine this
would be a nice trip when the sun is shining . The baroque buildings in
Fulda might be interesting to visit. An trip to the Rhine valley would be
possible too.

Take as much film with you, as you need for a short visit. For a longer
visit, you might find it more convenient not to carry a bag full of film
and buy additional film overhere. You have to decide between the
unconvenience to carry a bulk of film or to find a shop to buy the film.
There is no big difference in film prices.

Some of the natives here claim to speak some English, so with some patience
basic comunication problems can be solved.
A guide book might be helpfull, if read in advance.
I´ve no final opinion about this "cultur shock" books. Generaly a good idea,
but the only one I know (in English about Germany) was writen by two Germans
and is basicly playing with Anglo-Saxon prejudices about Germany.
At the airport in Frankfurt you can either choose the S-Bahn (Metro) to the
center of Frankfurt (Hauptbahnhof, Central station) which is the cheapest and
fastest way into the city or hire a Taxi (cab) which is the most comfortable
way (no luging around of suitcases) if your company pays the expenses.

Regards,

Richard
