The M.18v grip (1, 2) holds an even dozen AA's.  At a nominal 1.5v each,
12*1.5 gives you the requisite 18v.  The motor drive's performance is
unreliable when the batteries' voltage drops down around 1.3 or 1.2.  I've
never tried nicads with it.  I just keep buying Duracell stock <g> and lug a
backup M.18v grip and plenty of spare batteries around.

I will have to try the M.18v pack with the relay cord and see if it helps me
hold the whole rig more steady or not.
