Hi list members,

to get a feeling of different capacities of different lenses without
wasting film, there is the possibility to play around with so called
workshop microscopes. There are very cheap and quite good Russian workshop
microscopes at the flea markets. With such an instrument, you can watch the
picture plane as if it were an real object. It is very simple to watch the
center of the picture plane, but more difficult to see the corners because
of the there uneven illumination. With their magnification of 25 times and
50 times, you can sometimes see abberations, which you normally know only
as a technical term, for example the chromatic abberation (it is better to
use a good achromat than a bad apochromat).
