These are only 600 dpi which is adequate for web and small prints only.
Slide scanners are either 1900 or 2700 dpi (the smaller number is the only
one that counts) and will give you "photo quality" 8x10s from 35mm. I can
get about 6x6" photo quality from 6x6 chromes off my Microtek Scanmaker 4
flatbed ($650, very happy with it) but don't even bother trying with 35mm.
Any scanner you buy these days comes bundled with a limited version of
Photoshop 4 that should fit your machine.
