Collectable status and cult status were two terms used for the OM System in
the America popular photographic press some time before that, although I have
no specific references to offer.

Used Nikon and Canon manual focus lenses are experiencing a glut of supply
over demand.  While popular, they don't command premiums, unless in Minty
condition.  Olympus OM is pretty hot, although MANY camera stores will state
just the opposite.  Frequently they won't even take them as trade ins.  It
seems to me, based on the USA market only, that the Internet venue for Olympus
OM is way stronger than the retail venue.  Conversely, the Internet venue for
Canon manual focus is softer versus the retail venue.  One can only speculate
on why.  Personally, I think we are on the cusp of radical changes in how used
equipment is redistributed.  And we can thank the Internet for that.
