An interesting phenomenon here in Austin. Only one of the city's two
camera stores (I'm intentionally excluding Wolf) sells used equipment, and
until recent years did a brisk business in it. Most of the equipment was
sold on a consignment basis which can be good in that individuals often
want money faster than retail stores and price their equipment accordingly.
I purchased my second OM2s body + 50/1.8 lens there about 4 years ago for
$180.00 US and both were in 9+ condition. Pretty good deal compared even
to internet prices. Until about a year ago I could go there weekly and see
a broad selection of bodies/lenses from virtually every manufacturer.
These days the C*n*ns and N*k*ns still fill the shelves, but the only OM
equipment on the shelf is this really, really sad 135 Zuiko in about a -4
condition for $200.00 US. The store manager claims that the only OM stuff
he sees any more is priced so outrageously that he refuses to try to sell
it, even on consignment with a 20 0.000000ee!
Hang on to your hardware, folks! (Except those nasty OM4 Ti things, of
course! Sell 'em to me!). OM stuff is getting harder to find and more
expensive when you do!
