Some people simply have too much money, and probably not enough time to
spend with their offspring. And so they use $$$'s to compensate.
This reminds me a story: when I was a teaching assistant in grad. school,
one of my freshman students was driving a brand-new Porsche 911. Once
he gave me a ride, and told me that he got the car as a present from
his father -- for choosing to go to Berkeley instead of Stanford!
The guy's reasoning was: "I saved my Dad a ton of dough in tuition."
Of course, he conveniently forgot that on a new 911, an 18-year old pays
a small fortune in car insurance! Just imagine how tempted I was to
give this guy an F! (I didn't... I'm such a nerd! Oh well, this was
not a "Logic 101" class... :-))
