(or some smaller mag).
Looking through the viewfinders of both with a 135mm lens, the
subject in the OM-4Ti looks a lot bigger/closer than the EOS-3.
Presumably due to the magnification issue. What does 97% mean
then?? 970f what I see in the viewfinder??

The 97% means that in the viewfinder you see 970f the image which will be
recorded on film. The magnification refers to how big that 97% will appear to
your eye in the finder. Neither of these numbers have any effect on the image
recorded on film. They only characterize the viewfinder system.

On a related note, I read somewhere that when camera manufacturers specify the
coverage of their finders (93%, 97%, etc...) they are comparing linear
measurements. So a 97 0.000000inder shows 24mm*.97=23.28mm X 36mm*.97=34.92mm.
In
reality this is only 940f the area of the image - 24*36=864 sq. mm vs.
23.28*34.92=812.9376; 812.9376/864=94.09%

So a 93 0.000000inder (like on the OM2000) only shows 86.50f the image.

Can anyone verify this?

Hope this Helps.
