I was thinking more of a tube that acts as a flash bulb.
I believe it starts to fire on release of the shutter and exposes during the
duration of the shutter speed.
The 280 fires multiple times across the path of exposure. (still cool
though!)

I am not technical just a dreamer.  :-)
