DEET doesn't dissolve just rubber -- it attacks all sorts of plastics.

If you have a camcorder, or P&S, or any camera made of plastic, or with
plastic parts (eg, wind-lever tip), wash your hands _thoroughly_ after
applying DEET. And be sure you don't touch the camera to parts of your
body with DEET (such as your face).
