: It should be in the OM-1 manual
:wether or not a cube flash will get you anywhere over 1/60.

The OM-1 manual lists the following recommended sync times for the various
supported flash types:

FP (long burning flash bulbs): 1/1000-1/60 (sync switch set to FP)
Electronic flash: 1/60-1 (sync switch set to X)
MF bulbs: 1/15-1 (sync switch set to X; 1/30 possible but not recommended)
M.FP bulbs: 1/15-1 (sync switch set to X)

The GN's that must be used to determine aperture, based on distance, can
vary, depending on the kind of synchronisation, and with some bulbs also
depending of the used shutter speed. I have a table of GN's of the most
frequently used Philips bulbs in the 70's. The data for the PF4C (PF =
Philips Flash) flash cube were (100-125 ASA, in meters):

X (1/25-1/30): GN 30
M (1/50-1/60): GN 22
M (1/100-1/125): GN 18
M (1/250-1/300): GN 14

Some flash bulbs in this table have specs that could make the most
sophisticated electronic flash jealous. What about the PF100E, that has,
when X-sync'ed at 1/15, a GN of... 153 meters...? Then there are of course
these long burning FP (FP = Focal Plane) bulbs that make the Olympus F280
flash look pathetic. Take the PF45E, for instance:

1/50-1/60: GN 65
1/100-1/125: GN 52
1/200-1/300: GN 42
1/400-1/500: GN 32

Does anybody know the GN of 125 gram flash powder? :-)

Hans
