The Novo-flex follow-focus lenses can be focused by squeezing the
pistol grip
support handle. This provides very rapid smooth focusing so that moving
targets like birds, animals cars etc can be tracked as you pan. The pistol grip
(combined with shoulder pods on larger models) provides much more support and
hence much sharper picture when hand holding a long lens. (Using a lens on a
tripod is tricky for birds flying above your head!) The larger models also
have a squeeze shutter release cable on a second grip so that shutter release
is less likely to cause shake.
Historically the Novoflex lenses are optimized for very high
centre field sharpness with the idea the centre is usually most important in
animal/sports photography, but I checked their website and they are now
offering more sophisticated optics as well: Leitz lens heads (at appropriate
Leitz like prices!)
