I think the Japanese manufacturers are very wise when labeling those
buttons the way they do - for the American consumer market that is.
They simply must do this to prevent themselves from lawsuits by people
saying that they 'got hurt' because the machine was powered when the
button was pushed, when they were expecting it to work the other way.
In other words: the Japanese only do so in a reaction to the odd and
ludicrous American way of trying to make a financial profit from own
stupidity causing damage or injury, by blaming manufacturers for not
giving enough information about their products.
Just a thought of a (European) spectator...
