that's not always true...it really depends on your scanner. mine (a cheap
umax from the dark ages) scans well at its native resolution (300dpi)
and at 1/2 its native resolution only. when you attempt a scan at other
resolutions, it gives you a scan with pretty obvious "jaggies" on diagonal
lines. i always try to scan at full native resolution (either 300dpi, or
2400dpi for slides) and then use photoshop to sample down. it does a much
better job than simply scanning at the final output res.
