My favourite foam for fitting out a camera case is a camping mat - the sort
that
campers use to insulate themselves from the ground. These are usualy much
cheaper
than buying foam from a place that sells foam. If you need a thicker piece
than the
mat just cut multiple pieces and glue them together. Another thing I like
about
this foam is that you can glue it with a hot melt glue gun. You can also cut
it
with a good pair of scissors.

If you want very professional looking results easily you can get a fairly stiff
open
cell foam called 'pick and pluck'. This stuff is supplied with most Pelican
cases
and can be ordered as a spare from a dealer in such cases or from specialist
rubber
and foam suppliers.

This sort of foam is pre scored so you can pluck out squares of it to give a
very
precise shape with straight edges. It is a bit expensive (in Australia) though
so I
stick with the afore mentioned camping mat foam (PVA?) which gives better
protection
IMO.
