: What is the Lomographic Syndrome ?

Lomography.
Started as a joke by an Austrian student who bought himself a Russian Lomo
camera instead of a single use camera. Now it is considered by some people
as a form of art, by others more like the death of photography.

The rules to become a successful Lomographer are:
- Get yourself the cheapest, lowest possible camera, preferably a Lomo. An
Olympus OM is way out of the question, but one of those plastic 'Olympia' or
'Canyon' fake-cheat camera's will do fine.
- Shoot as much as possible, preferably at totally irrelevant subjects.
Without any doubt, Lomography is sponsored by Kodak and Fuji.
- Whatever you do, *don't* look through the viewfinder. If you still feel
the urge to do so, put tape on it or paint it black. The real Lomographer
shoots from the hip. (This is what my previous post referred to - with a
hyperfocal setting, there's no need to focus).
- Sharp pictures are considered bad, and so are well-exposed. One of the
reasons to get a Lomo. A recent test in a serious Dutch photo magazine
prooved that the Lomo is worth its reputation. It isn't even completely
lightsealed.
- Bad composition or rather no composition is a key property of a good
Lomograph.
- When you've collected enough of these shit pictures (Lomographs), put them
all together on the wall, side by side, as a Lomographic Wallpaper.
- When people wonder and ask, call yourself an artist.

If you want to know more you can check the site of the International
Lomographic Society:
http://www.lomo.com
This is also the place where you can get ripped by paying US$ 180 for a
would-be camera that sucks. But at least you'll get what you asked for. It
probably is a good investment, too. You'll probably get twice this price on
e-ay :-)
