A T-adapter is just the thing. Mine is a simple flanged tube with a
threaded collar on one end to fit the threads on the rear of the scope (a
Celestron 11) and male threads on the other end to fit the camera adapter of
choice (OM of course). Most Schmidt-Cassigrains use this design.
Newtonians and Dobsonians typically use a slip-in type. If he/she is using
a Newt with a 1.25" focuser they will get a lot of vignetting; a 2" focuser
will be much better.

Trouble is, mounting the camera is the easy part. For long duration astro
shots one must also guide the scope very accurately to match the earth's
rotation. This can be done in several ways, each with their respective
strengths and weaknesses, depending on the scope design used and one's
objectives. If you would like more details, please email me privately.
Other than using an OM-1 as a film holder, the art and science of guiding is
more than a wee bit OT. :)

I highly recommend your friend subscribe to the astro photographers mailing
list (APML). To subscribe, send mail to: majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx and in the
main body put

subscribe astro-photo

They are a great bunch, exceptionally knowledgable and willing to share
their hard-won "secrets". The traffic is a little less than this list,
35-50 a day. There is also a searchable archive at:
http://www.system.missouri.edu/apml/ which is updated monthly (more or
less). Much discussion on guiding can be found there.
