No need to get testy, you have missed the point.

The meter sees X amount of light through the lens. When you adjust
the aperture ring, it simply registers how many stops from X you have
set and compensates for that. In other words, if X is the ambient
light at the meter, and Y is the number of stops closed down from
that aperture, the indicated shutter speed will be computed using the
formula X-Y=available light.
