For me personally, I am waiting for a shootout between the Nikon Coolscan
2000 and the new Polaroid SprintScan 4000. While either of these machines is
expensive, I think that anyone with a large backlog of old slides and
negatives should consider the best possible approach--primarily because you
will not want to do it twice!
But, I think for sheer value, nothing can touch the new HP S20 scanner. Given
a recent rave review, USB connection, easy software, I can see getting this
in addition to one of the above just to benchmark it.
The comments about flaky connections and software have eliminated Minolta
from consideration for me.
