The road to the Wire Pass trailhead is located about 45 miles from Kanab or
35 miles from Page or Hwy 89 in southern Utah. Go south 8.3 miles on a graded
dirt road (passable with an ordinary car is dry.) The turn off is unmarked
and kind of hard to find (especially in the dark) but it's just west of a
structure called the cockscomb, a ridge of reddish sandstone running
north/south. But its right near a yellow "Slow to 50" sign.
As you go down the road you'll pass the Buckskin Gulch trailhead at about 4
miles but wait for the Wire Pass trailhead at 8.3 miles because it will also
get you into a more scenic part of Buckskin.
Before you go you should check in at the Paria Cyn. ranger station three or
four miles east of the dirt road turnoff to make sure there are no
thunderstorms predicted. You can pay to enter Wire Pass/Buckskin right at the
trailhead.
Camping is free at Wire Pass if you're fully self-contained (pit toilet
only). We camped out and started off at about 8 am and returned about 4 pm.
I heard there that the locals were charging $25 per hour to tour Antelope
Canyon.and maybe more if you used a tripod. Buckskin is on BLM land and costs
$5.00.
I already want to go back.

PS. Also the same trailhead is used for Coyote Buttes and the location of
"The Wave," an eroded sandstone structure you may have seen in photos. BLM
only lets in 10 people per day and you must wear soft-soled shoes. See:

You have to sign up on the Internet and they give you a secret map. Compass
and map skills are necessary or a GPS unit can suffice.
