At the moment people started to take Kelton's funmail seriously I just *had*
to weigh my SC E.Zuiko 135mm/F2.8 and my MC Zuiko 135mm/F2.8, and the
results are shocking! The SC lens weighs 367 gram, the MC version weighs 351
gram... Mind you, same lens! The only other difference besides coating is
that the MC lens still has its 'passed' sticker and the SC lens does not, so
the difference would even be bigger! Now before you start thinking of new
theories that maybe the photones passing the multi coated layers don't loose
as much energy as those passing the single coated layers, and thus make the
lens lighter, let me tell you that the really shocking fact is that this
lens is supposed to weigh, according to Olympus, printed both in the '79
p-SIF and in the '85 Lens Handbook: 360 gram! So what's happening here? Is
this the beginning of Yet Another Conspiracy Theory? Is the number of
elements that Olympus puts in its lenses subject to a randomizer, or maybe
based on the value of the Yen? Is there a grey market for stolen lens
elements? Are there actuallly 350mm/F2.8 lenses that have only *one* element
so that you can easily carry them in your inner pocket? Yes brothers and
sisters Zuiks, this calls for a deep investigation!
