IMHO do it the easy way. Use flash on manual, use flash meter to meter flash
output. If too high, use ND filters, or if you want to be fancy, fold a
handkercheif over the flash (not the camera lens).
You may wish to build a light tent and put up a fill reflector, but that is
the next lesson. I don't believe in working hard unless necessary. Autoflash
is working hard because you have no idea what you are getting. If necessary,
fire off a sheet of poleroid first.
