Oh I have the habit all right.
After 30 years with process cameras.

obvisously don't want to cancel your show. So you set it to fanonly, cool
the lamp rapidly, change it, and go on with the show.

I am getting the idea that this and moving the 
projector before it would have time to cool down by itself are the 
reasons for the fan only setting.
 As Spocks brother said "Live long and learn".
