The symptoms you describe sound very similar to the failure my winder 2 had
some years ago.  The problem in that case proved to be the micro-switch
under the button of the winder.  The tiny plastic actuator broke.
Replacement of the switch was required to fix it.  It is not horribly
expensive to repair.
