: I like the 2-4 screen in my OM4, but having just obtained a 500mm f/8 Zuiko
: mirror lens, I don't trust in my ability to focus precisely enough with just
: the matte, and am considering a 2-13 screen vs. the Beattie with a
: split-image/matte configuration.

The 2-13 has the same problems as the 1-13: split-image and microprisms darken
with lens speeds below F5. The Beattie ( http://www.intenscreen.com/ ) with
split image will have the same problem.
Try to learn to focus using the matte; its easy once you get used to it. If you
have problems with the "2" series type of matte you may try the 1-4, which is 2
stops darker compared to the 2-4, but has a matte that is more coarse, or the
1-8, a fine matte that works best in combination with the Varimagnifinder. The
1-7 (clear field with microprisms compatible with super teles all the way up to
F11) unfortunately can't be used since it's incompatible with the 500mm - the
edges will darken.
