All you eclipse chasers . . . remember that looking at the sun with a
telescope is how Galileo went blind in one eye . . . instantaneously . . .
and it wasn't a very powerful one at that.  It can also instantaneously
kill your camera.

I was lucky.  Aimed a six-inch reflector at the sun in my very early teens
and nearly had it locked on when my dad saw what I was doing in the back
yard.  I only saw him move that fast on a couple occasions.  The telescope
nearly flew off its tripod when he hit it on a dead run to swing its
traverse.  It must have spun around a couple of revolutions before it
stopped!  Then I got a lecture about Galileo; learned a lot about the man
that day aside from his telecope work.

eclipse photography, some of the *safer* methods, typical equipment used,
and the hazards to you *and* your gear.
