As a single-volume gift, I would say that Adams' "Examples" is a better
choice. It leads very naturally to the 3-volume set, which is
indispensible but ponderous for a fledgling. Of the 3-volume set, the first
volume "The Camera" would be an OK singleton if "Examples" is unavailable.
