Tom,
        I've been lurking on the list for a while. I saw this and thought some
one will warn him. Never ever use WD 40 on anything but the raunchiest
piece of mechanics and when spray on enough to wash off what you put on
last week.  WD40 turns into the stickiest sludge there is. Then it grabs
all the dirt in the neighborhood. My Dad would cuss it for the next week
every time some one would bring in a coin machine that they had been
using WD40 on.
