I think the S Zuiko Auto-Zoom 35-70mm F3.5-4.5
( http://www.veluwen.demon.nl/om-sif/lensgroup/35-70mmf35-45.htm )
and maybe also the coSina Zuiko Auto-Zoom 35-70mm F3.5-4.8
( http://www.veluwen.demon.nl/om-sif/lensgroup/35-70mmf35-48.htm ),
being the smallest and lightest (190 g. resp. 185 g.) of the zooms in this range
are the best partners for the small and lightweight OM body. They are *much*
smaller than the F3.6 and F4 lenses, weigh 200/210 g. less and give you
close-focusing (45/40cm.) as a bonus.
I have the F3.5-4.5, and am very pleased with its performance. It is the best of
the two (also proven by Gary's tests). This one is also much less a variable
aperture lens than the F3.5-4.8: from F4.5 the aperture remains constant. So
it's more like a 35-70mm/F4.5 lens with an extra F3.5 setting at 35mm.
>From all 35-70mm zooms the F3.6 is supposed to be the best, but Gary's tests do
not really show this. But it does have a more effective lens hood that also
zooms. The Cosina lens is the only one that can be ordered new. But used Zuiko
zooms are not hard to find, especially the F3.5-4.5 and F4 versions.

And then there is of course also the 35-80/F2.8. You must be willing to spend a
lot of money, carry 650 g., accept the 62mm filter thread and a min. focusing
distance of 60cm., but then you have the best of the best.

P.S. referring to the original thread - when you subscribe to a magazine in the
Netherlands, the subscription is automatically continued after one year unless
_you_ take action at the end of the year to cancel it. Magazines also ask you to
have the payment automated to cut down administration costs and sometimes even
offer you a small reduction if you do so.
