Zuiko 35-70 light weight close focus - never leave home without it!

Zuikes! I went to photograph the largest flower in the world in bloom
<http://www.huntington.org/PageOne.htm>.-- the big stinky Amorphophallus
titanum,
the Titan Arum or Bunga Bangkai ("Corpse flower")

I went through the first line (30 minutes) paid my $8.50 admission only
to find the
two hour mile long line. It was hot! The sun was beating down on the
throng of visitors,
some were overcome by heatstroke and carried away in the ambulance.

I'd brought some Kodak Gold 200 and color EIR infrared film, yellow
number 12 and the Schott UG3 ultraviolet black filter but when I finally
got to the gigantic six foot tall bloom I discovered that I'd left that
little jewel of a lens (Zuiko 35/70mm f3.5~4.5)
<http://www.veluwen.demon.nl/om-sif/lensgroup/35-70mmf35-45.htm> back in
the automobile. Oh no! I needed the 35-70 it's such a versatile lens!
Even better when combined with a 7mm extension tube (which I did
remember to bring) It has fantastic macro capability when used with a
reversal ring and a special make it yourself drilled out lens protector
back with both a carpet tack aperture stop activator and a 55 mm filter
ring glued on with DevCon 5 minute epoxy glue. This make it yourself
attachment both protects the rear element and allows you to attach the
T10 ring flash. You can flip it around in seconds for conventional
close up or reverse it for super macro! I usually use it reversed on
top of the Vivitar zoom extension doubler.

The only other Olympus person that I saw at the flower was an IS2 user.
I said "Olympus !" and he smiled.

The flower can be viewed at
http://www.huntington.org/BotanicalDiv/TitanImages.htm

It really did stink and I saw at least one fly that was attracted to the
flower.
