My first and last attempt to join a camera club was in 1959 when I turned up
at a meeting of the local Photographic Society with my Regula L around my
neck. The membership secretary told me "Some of the membership do have 35mm
cameras but only for taking holiday slides. For serious photography we all
use Rolleiflexes or other roll film twin lens reflex cameras."

I didn't return and promised myself that when I 'grew up' I wouldn't be such
a stick-in-the-mud fuddy-duddy, but now when I hear myself tut-tut at the
mention of wonderbricks and rave on about the qualities of some of the
'sixties cameras I know that I've failed! OTOH I did manage to keep quiet
throughout the recent OT-Leica discussions about my many happy years spent
first with a IIIf and later an M2 outfit...(Shhh you old fool - you're doing
it again!)
