I'm not familiar with any Jena lens for 35mm or Oly but I did use one
quite intensively on a 4x5 camera. It was and is one of the all out
sharpest lens I've ever seen. It had been slightly modified by an
optical company to change the contrast a bit. It was a 210 mm. The
Jena plant was the original Ziess factory before the war and I guess the
Soviet's took much of it back to Russia. However much of the designs
after the war were quite good. One of my clients did a sabatical there
recently and only has wonderful things to say about their current
operation. He's also a world class photographer who always shoots with
the absolute highest quality glass. I assume the Jena plant has now
been incorporated in the Zeiss empire and since the re-unification I
don't believe their is a distinction in their products. As with most
multi-national companies today it is harder to ascertain the origin of
the actual manufacture of the goods. If you can get your hands on some
of this Jena glass it would probably be worth the market price. They
are usually simple designs and are easy to overhaul (most had Copal or
Seikosa shutters.)
