Sort of. With the round filters with the split of the densities in the
middle, spot metering can't really be done because as you pan the camera up
and down, the split will follow you. But with Cokin filters in a holder, you
can slide the filter down so that the clear spot is over the spot sensor and
take a spot reading. Conversely, for the foreground, for example, you can
slide the filter up and take a spot reading through the darker area.
PS. The Cokin filters that I have that are supposed neutral density aren't
really. Mine have a olive green cast and others have complained of a magenta
cast. Test these by taking a photo with a pure white object in it or white
clouds in it to make sure you aren't disappointed later with a critical or
important shot.
