I use close-up filters which I beleive are the cheapest, I got my two +4 filtes
for 2 ukp, and worst(?) way of taking close-ups. However, depending on the
reasons for taking the close-up they can work well ...I tend to take
semi-abstract shots of flowers etc, so the loss of definition at the sides of
the image can be quite appealing. Also there is no loss in light levels from
your original lens, so when combined with something like the 50 1.8 you get a
hand-holdable lens even in dull conditions.

I recently stacked two +4 lenses and a warm up gilter on my 50 1.8 and took some
shots of flowers and foliage late in the day with no flash on Elitechrome 100
and the results were superb.

I'm still waiting to aquire a set of extension tubes to see what (if anything)
im missing out on, but I'm relatively happy for now.
