Hello folks,
As I own seven lenses covered by Gary Reese?s tests it occurred to me that
it would make sense to use them, wherever possible, at their optimum
aperture(s) - but how to remember which ones they are now that the ?two
stops down from wide open? theory has been pretty well shot down?

Originally I printed out each relevant lens's test results on a File-o-Fax
page with the idea that I?d incorporate the pages into a photo notebook with
space to write exposure data and other useful info, but it?s not a very
practical solution for someone with my close up vision, especially if it?s
raining.

I have now stuck a strip of label inside each lens cap between the guides
for the springy thread grippers and have written the apertures on it, colour
coded using a set of Sharpie pens. The optimum aperture(s) in red, the ?okay
? ones in green, the ?if you must? ones in blue and the ?emergency only? in
fine fountain pen black with a line through them. Each label has a lens
identifier too in case the caps get mixed up. Now, as I remove a lens?s cap,
its ?performance profile? is literally at my fingertips.

I thought I?d share that in case it?s of use to anyone else ? or to see if
somebody can improve upon it.

Regards,
Keith Berry (Birmingham, England)
