This is an interesting observation!

Ten years ago, when I was 'on the road' doing TV news camerawork, the
newspaper photographers would have the biggest camera bags around: two Nikon
F3 bodies, big Metz flash handles and probably half a dozen lenses.

These days, it's more likely the photographer will turn up with one camera
around his or her neck: an EOS-1, with one lens and a top-mounted flashgun,
and that's it.

The fact is, zoom lenses are better, and cover more range than ever before, so
one or two zooms will take care of most of your needs. Films are better, so
rather than have one body loaded with 125ASA and another with 400ASA
black-and-white, they'll have one body with 800ASA colour neg.

Having two or three cameras around your neck and a big bag full of gear is no
longer the trademark of the pro.
