If I recall correctly, Ansel Adams used an International Harvester
Travelall.  Circa 1973 or so.  Those things were built like wagons (log
wagons) and rode like them.  Very stiff and hard riding, built with a truck
attitude, not a lighter-riding "today" vehicle.

I'd be interested in hearing the details of Adams's vehicle: was it modified
for the duty, or did he just get lucky, or did he compensate by other means?
