The original poster listed fixer, D-76 and Dektol - all single-step powders
dissolved in water. The mixing temperture is different for all three, but
the basic procedure is the same - a specified starting volume of water, add
powder and stir until completely dissolved, add water to final volume. As
Garth points out, others solutions are mulit-step and the sequence of the
steps is extremely important, both in terms of getting the solution right
and the safety of the person doing the mixing. This is particularly
important with acidic solutions - always add acid to water, not the other
way around.

With color solutions it is almost always the case there are several
components to each solution step. I can't think of one that is not. I'm
sure one exists, I just can't name it at the moment.

B&W processing soon), but if these are powdered chemicals you're talking
about, don't some of them come with "binary" or even "trinary" formulas?
That is, aren't some of them multi-step, requiring first that you open one
powder pack, dissolve it in water of an appropriate temperature, then open
another and so on?
