Is there an infallible way to determine whether a non-Zuiko lens may damage
(i.e., sheer off) the little black spring-loaded post that makes the camera
eep when the lens is removed, etc.?

Sitck a tiny bit of masking tape next to the button, and next to any suspect screws. Slowly mount the lens, making sure none of the tape lines up.

I think it's been mentioned that mounts with four equally spaced screws are trouble.
