Well, believe it or not, light makes its way around the mirror in "no light"
situations and feeds the SBCs  dramatically shortening such a test exposure.
Of course, when you're actually shooting in low/no  light, you wouldn't need
the tape.
The first time I tested a plain 2 with the body cap on, auto exposure at ASA
12 was very short and I thought "whoa, that CAN'T be right", so  on my
second attempt, I taped the eyepiece over and sure enough, the next exposure
was much longer.
