[OM] Tiffen Soft Contrast Filter

I got my tiffen soft contrast #3 filter today. Doris Fang is correct in
that it appears to be some kind of diffusion filter. When I held it up to
strong light and looked closely, it appeared that the filter element was
"crazed" slightly. Of course, the filter element in most tiffen filters is
in between the lamenations, which protects it I suppose, and apparently
makes them very consistent. I wonder if that test Gary Reese is performing
on filters would show up Tiffens to be junk? Also, I can't imagine that a
short length of large diameter screw thread is going to all that acurate
regarding holding the glass perfectly perpendicular to the light path
anyway, so I don't know how important filter flatness and parallelism is to
picture quality.

Be seeing you.
