Acer,

The T-32 is a bad choice for on camera flash.
A Sunpack or Vivitar with it's higher profile is better.
You have no TTL exposure with a OM1so there is 
no loss there.
For vertically oriented shots you need a pc cord or a shoe to foot cord.
I recommend a flash bracket so you don't have to have your girlfriend
hold the flash for you.  The closer you get the flash to the ceiling the 
less light loss.  Some way to swivel the head is needed for verticals.
Unless the flash swivels itself.
For people, try to set something white down below their eye level 
so you lighten the sockets. (newspaper works).

You will be very pleased with the results.
